Yes, you will need to study harder. But Talent 100 can show you how to study smarter as well. This means you can use your time and energy to achieve your full HSC potential – without burning out.

HEADSTART YEARLY SUCCESS PROGRAM

COURSE OUTLINE

Talent 100’s Year 10 Headstart Yearly Success Program is an accelerated program focused on teaching Year 11 material a year in advance. The purpose of this program is to give students a head start over their peers when they reach Year 11 and 12 – the years that really count.

The sudden increase in the level of difficulty between Year 10 and Year 11 can be daunting for students. Bridge the gap by learning ahead for your final HSC years. With the Headstart Yearly Success Program, students enter Year 11 prepared – this means they can use school time to revise content that they’ve already learned in Year 10.

Talent 100 students who took the Headstart course outperformed their non-Headstart peers in our standardised exams by an average of 6.5% in Maths and 5% in Sciences. That’s an overall difference of 2.25 ATAR points. We call this the “Headstart Advantage”.

Develop a competitive advantage in Maths, English, Physics and Chemistry by starting early – one of the best features of the Headstart program is that it allows you to test” and trial subjects before you finalise subject selection in Year 11. That way, you are able to see if you are capable of coping with the demands of the highest-scaling subjects, allowing you to make a more informed decision about which subjects to pursue in your final years of high school.

Acing the HSC requires commitment and dedication. We can help simplify the process of targeting your study where it’s needed the most in the lead up to your HSC exams.

Additionally, because Year 12 content builds on top of Year 11 content, the Headstart Advantage carries all the way through to your HSC year by extension.

Most importantly? We make studying fun!

Our NEW state-of-the-art learning centres become a home away from home for our Year 10 students who need a safe, quiet study space without interruptions where they can commit to their studies.

Year 10 XXX Course Overview

Study advanced topics on quadratics, trigonometry, circle geometry, logarithms and polynomials, as well as preliminary calculus in preparation for Year 11.

In Years 9 and 10, we cover the Stage 5.3 advanced topics, including the optional topics in Year 10. This is to ensure that our students have the technical skills as well as the depth of understanding that are prerequisites to success in the demanding Stage 6 calculus courses. It is during these two years that a student’s mathematical thinking begins to mature. Increasing emphasis is placed on mathematical theory and proof, rather than just working out answers. We also provide students with a basic introduction to calculus in order to give them a head-start and a sense of what lies ahead in Year 11. We endeavour to make the step up from Year 10 to Year 11 less daunting.

Talent 100 Maths Programs are led by and overseen by David Sadler, co-author of x4 Cambridge University Mathematics Textbooks. David taught Mathematics at Sydney Grammar for 36 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science majoring in Pure Mathematics and Science at UNSW, Masters of Pure Mathematics at USYD and a Diploma of Education at USYD.

Build the core skills needed to master Physics and Chemistry both in Year 10 and beyond, and get an overview of the four topics of the Preliminary course.

Our Year 10 program helps students develop an understanding of the core scientific principles of the Preliminary Physics and Chemistry courses. All Year 10 students are required to learn a basic version of this at school, but the Headstart program provides a deeper examination of the theory to give students an extra edge as they approach their final years of school and the HSC. The course also develops proficiency in the numerical calculations that underpin all HSC Science exams, so students not only develop a conceptual understanding of the course but they also refine the technical skills needed to truly master HSC Physics and Chemistry.

The course is taught in 5-week modules. Over the course of the year, students will be taught a lighter version of the Preliminary Physics Course (Moving About, Electrical Energy, World Communicates, and Cosmic Engine) and Preliminary Chemistry (Chemical Earth, Metals, Water, Energy). Headstart programs cover about half the theory of the Preliminary courses, focusing more attention on understanding while leaving harder theories and questions for Year 11.

Learn ahead the fundamentals for Preliminary English before Year 11. Learn the key skills for analysing texts and writing persuasively in preparation for Year 11.

The intermediate years of high school are crucial for establishing the skills that will lead to success in Senior English. Schools sometimes allow Year 9 and 10 students simply to regurgitate themes and quotes, with minimal coherence or persuasive understanding, but this leads to poor performance in the HSC. Our Year 9 and 10 courses focus consistently on understanding what distinguishes each text type (e.g. poetry, prose fiction, drama, film, non-fiction), and using each of these focused units as an opportunity to develop the key skills needed for writing well-structured and detailed responses. Students are challenged to learn and explain the key language features of texts while making clear, distinctive arguments in a persuasive manner. . The regular homework, written exercises and class discussions, as well as their Mentor's feedback, enables students to develop a much more mature approach to learning their material and expressing themselves in clear detail. This leads not only to greater exam performance, but also gives students the ability to study the highest-scaling and most rewarding levels of English.

FAQs

There are many places where you can get good tuition for HSC subjects. However, Talent 100 is unique in its approach to results-focused teaching and learning. The results speak for themselves with Talent 100 students topping the state every year since we were founded.

At Talent 100, we help students study smarter, not harder, in the lead up to and during their HSC. We teach you exactly what you need to know in order to score top marks, and we’ll help you be exam-ready when it counts because our course programs are designed to help you prepare for exams all year round.

We have a very strong results focus that seeks to maximise ATARs. Rather than encouraging you to devote your energy evenly across all your subjects, we show you how to allocate your time efficiently to the higher-scaling subjects that need more attention. Acing the HSC is about picking your battles, not just winning them.

We help our students to dramatically improve their marks through a two-tier system of teaching.

In our in-centre, interactive small group classes, we’ll familiarise you with the key theory, focusing on building a deep conceptual understanding from first principles, rather than through memorisation. A Talent 100 Mentor (teacher or tutor) explains the theory, working through typical HSC questions, before allowing you to reinforce what you learnt with further questions.

In an interactive and personalised tutorial, a Talent 100 Mentor will provide directed and individual feedback to you (and up to three other students) if you require help with your school or Talent 100 work.

Overall, our teaching system combines the best of a competitive class environment with the personal attention and care of having a private tutor.

At Talent 100, we call all of our teachers and tutors ‘Mentors’, because they do so much more than simply teach content. They guide our students to HSC success year after year.

The Talent 100 Academic Team comprehensively understands the HSC system and how to succeed in it because almost all of our Mentors have topped the state or achieved a state rank in their area of subject matter expertise. Most have scored an ATAR above 99.85 or have achieved unparalleled academic or teaching success. Talent 100 Mentors will show you in exacting detail what it takes to succeed in each subject.

Talent 100 teachers will help you maximise your ATAR through their:

  • Outstanding academic merit – Getting the very best marks requires having detailed and specific knowledge of the HSC syllabus. Talent 100 Mentors have achieved unparalleled success in the HSC and can use their specific knowledge to help you.
  • Effective communication and strong leadership skills – This ensures the theory can be taught to you in a way you will understand.
  • Passion for teaching and improving your marks – They understand how significant your HSC is in influencing your university course options and, ultimately, your career path, so they are committed to doing whatever it takes to get you there.

Talent 100’s Academic Team is led by our Founder, Richard Chua, and consists of:

  • David Sadler, our Head of Maths and co-author of Cambridge University maths textbooks
  • Phd academics and university medalists
  • Masters-qualified teachers
  • A second to none undergraduate team, featuring top state ranking Mentors (tutors) who have topped the state in the HSC every year from 2007 to 2015 in Maths, Advanced English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Economics.

Our Academic Team has together translated their knowledge and results into a practical high-quality set of notes that covers everything you need to know for the exams in the ideal level of detail.

The notes guide you through the syllabus in a step-by-step structure that is easy to understand and follow. They are also comprehensively designed to make your study time efficient. For example, in Physics and Chemistry, we include write-ups of all practicals with a discussion of reliability, validity and accuracy. This ensures you are able to answer questions, even if your practicals did not go as planned.

Effectively, our system of notes and teaching allows you to leverage the collective expertise of the HSC’s top performers.
