Science

Year 10 is the ideal time for students to enrich their science study and improve their performance as they begin looking towards the HSC. Our Year 9 and 10 science programme covers all areas of the Stage 5 (Year 9 and 10 science) syllabus, including study of physics, chemistry and biology. Our expert tutors also guide students beyond the foundational level of understanding and into a deeper investigation of scientific concepts that affect their world and lives. We do this by supplementing interactive teaching and student practice with practical demonstrations and critical thinking exercises. This prepares students to be scientifically-informed citizens, and gives them a headstart for future HSC science study.

Dymocks Term 1

OCT - DEC

Students study the basic structure of matter by learning about atoms and elements. They learn about the structure of the atom and how elements can be classified and analysed using the Periodic Table. They also learn how this understanding can be used to identify different elements and to study and apply concepts of radioactivity and nuclear decay.

Dymocks Term 2

JAN - APR

Students study the particle and wave models, along with the physics of motion. Through this, they gain an understanding of theories and phenomena at the heart of the physical world. They also develop foundational skills of physics study including explaining physical phenomena, applying quantitative methods to solve real-world problems and conducting scientific experiments.

Dymocks Term 3

APR - JUN

Students study health, genetics and biotechnology. Through this, they gain a deeper understanding of factors that affect human life, such as disease and inheritance, and learn how to evaluate and use technologies that can impact these factors.

Dymocks Term 4

JUL - SEP

Students study the science of space. This includes structures of the universe such as planets, stars and galaxies and the forces that govern them. Students also study the past and future of the universe and how this has been determined by the use of data, technology and the scientific method. Through this, students gain a broad understanding of nature and the largest scales that will prepare them for future study of physics.

Do you offer Opportunity Class and Selective School coaching?

We are currently developing our practice exam materials catering specifically to the new online Opportunity Class and Selective School exams.

These materials will be a digital subscription product available through our Digital Platform my-mentor.com.au from Term 2, 2024 and will contain thousands of practice questions by exam type (Maths, English, Thinking Skills) and mock exams (with solutions) for students to prepare and practice at home.

When is the right time to start tutoring?

Every student is different and there is no “right” time to get tutoring support. Who has written the Primary Course Materials for Talent 100?

Talent Primary has partnered with BrainBuilder Maths to develop its Singapore Maths program. Designed by Dr Fong Ho Kheong, a world-renowned Singapore Maths specialist in conjunction with Julia Fong, the course applies unique model drawing techniques for conceptual learning which consistently places Singapore students at the top of the International Rankings for Mathematics competitions. Julia also teaches the Primary classes across all four centres and is responsible for teacher training.

Our Writing programs have been developed by experienced NESA teacher Mr Harvey Liu. Boasting a teacher career spanning over 7 years, Harvey has applied his Masters of Creative Writing, Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney to develop the materials based off new NESA guidelines to be implemented from 2024 onward.
