Meet our Year 12 Student, Ricky who comes from North Sydney Boys High School and scored an ATAR of 99.40
Name:Â Ricky Huang
ATAR: 99.40
School:Â North Sydney Boys High School
Overall, how do you think you went in the 2020 HSC?
Pretty well, better than expected. My exam timetable was spaced out, so I had enough time to prepare for everything.
Were the HSC 2020 Examinations what you expected?
Most exams were within expectation. Mathematics Extension 1 was a little challenging because it did not test a lot of the new content. There was more focus on topics from the old syllabus. There weren’t any questions for Mechanics or Projectile Motion, and there was very little on Vectors (which is a new topic).
Was there anything you wish you did differently?
Not really. The year went pretty well for what it was – business as usual at the start of COVID. Things got a little harder towards the end of the year, but going back to school made things feel pretty much the same – as normal as can be.
Can you describe your experience studying at Talent?
Pretty good! The transition from online back to face-to-face lessons was pretty smooth. Mentors were really helpful after the course ended, and were available to provide extra help leading into the HSC exams. The EXPs were really good and helped to prepare for the exams as well.
What do you like most about out Talent 100 Chatswood Campus?Â
The environment and everyone there – Mentors and Student Services were really helpful. It’s nice to have a quiet place to study!

Can you describe the teaching style of our Talent Mentors?
The Mentors at Talent are really knowledgeable and helpful – they really know their stuff, and are always happy to help.
How have our Mentors influenced your experience at Talent?
Definitely Marcus for Physics. He was my Mentor for 2 years, so we really developed a bond, easy to ask for help and explained concepts really well.
Can you tell us a little bit about your favourite class at Talent?
Both of my classes at Talent were really good (I had Marcus for Physics and Callum for Maths Extension 1), can’t really choose a best between the two.
How do you think the Talent 100 Scholarship program added value to your HSC?
It really gives a student an extra edge, which most tutoring places do. It was good to have a support network outside of school as well because it’s hard to get extra help in school, and also share resources with other students.
