Meet our Talent 100 Student: Vanessa

While you’re usually used to our staff and mentor blogs, we’ve decided to flip the switch so you can find out more about the students who actually study at Talent 100.

We can share their unique personalities and passions both in and outside of our classrooms.

This week we’ve been chatting to Vanessa who is currently in Year 12 and studies at our Epping Learning Centre.

Name:

Vanessa

Which Talent 100 centre do you study in?

Epping

When did you join Talent 100?

2017 (Year 9 Term 4)

Which year are you currently in?

Year 12

Subjects taken at Talent 100:

Mathematics Extension 2, Chemistry and Biology

What’s the best part about studying at Talent 100?

The Mentors are really approachable, and are able to teach in different ways to allow the students to best learn in a specific way.

The content that we learn is taught very well, and has significantly helped me improve in my subjects. Being at Talent 100 is not just about learning, there is a highly collaborative and social aspect in it as well, and so I was also able to make more friends.

Have you tried our holiday programs? If so, how did they benefit your learning?

Yes, I have. I did the revision course for Mathematics Extension 1, Chemistry and Biology in Year 11, and the revision course for Mathematics Extension 2 in Year 12. The review was really good to help me go through all of the important concepts in an effective and summarised way, especially after completing a long and content heavy module.

Can you share your number one study tip?

Make sure to use the syllabus to structure your notes. Once your notes are completed, one of the most effective ways to study is doing past paper questions.

Not only will you have increased exposure to the question range, but you can also know what the markers are looking for in different question types, and that way, you can ensure you’re answering the questions effectively.

What piece of advice would you give to other students?

It is always better to start preparing earlier, remembering not to put a focus on memorising, as this is not effective for a longer period of time. Learning and understanding how and why things will work for you to remember what you have learnt, which is highly effective for the science subjects.

What are your career aspirations after completing high school?

Medicine – specifically paediatrics.

What’s your hidden talent/something we might not know about you?

I have moved schools around 7 times, primary school and high school combined.

If you could describe Talent in one word, what would it be?

Valuable
