Now you have finished the HSC, what is your number 1 tip for students?

My number one study tip would be to plan out your day every day when you wake up or before you go to sleep the previous night, in a diary.  I have found that planning my day and physically writing down all the tasks that I need to complete help me structure my day out more effectively and I would spend less time procrastinating and wasting my time.  It’s really easy to do and it goes a long way, and you will keep yourself accountable for your own tasks.  What also might help is writing down your plan everyday and having a parent look at it so they can also keep you accountable to make sure you complete your work.

What did you gain out of tutoring and how would you describe your experience at Talent?

By attending Talent 100, I was aiming to gain an advantage in my studies and be ahead of school in content so that by the time I learn it again at school, it would be like revision.  I believed that this would assist me in the long term for exam preparation as well as I could spend more time practising questions, rather than learning content.  Talent 100 has been immensely helpful in this as their course structure is one term ahead of school.  Additionally, at the end of every term, they hold a revision lesson where we focus on doing more exam and HSC style questions.  I found these to be super helpful as it supplemented the content covered at school.  Overall, Talent 100 has helped me incredibly.

The learning environment at Talent 100 is simply amazing because mentors are always willing to help you in your learning and want you to succeed.  It is this sort of environment which I love to study and learn in and it is why I have been with Talent 100 for the last 5 years.  The best part of the learning environment at Talent is the incredible mentors who support you no matter what and will answer any question you have whether that be related to content in studies or questions you may have about high school/university and beyond.  As they are more than teachers and are mentors and people who I am inspired by, they have really enhanced my learning experience at Talent 100.

The tutorials offered at Talent 100 are 1:1 and target any issues you have.  I have used the tutorials for all of my subjects and they have been incredibly beneficial.  The tutors would explain the content in a different way that is easier to understand and walk you through it every step of the way, then they would go through questions with you to ensure that you understand the content.  Tutorials have also been highly effective in assisting me with school assessments and the tutors have provided me with specific tips to maximise marks.

The holiday programs are another amazing aspect of learning at Talent 100.  I always made sure to attend the revision courses and I also attended the Trial Preparation courses in the Term 2 school holidays.  These courses would revise the previous term’s modules by covering the content along with practising lots of exam style questions to maximise marks and I feel that these benefitted me a lot with exam revision and preparation.

Who were your mentors and how did they help you?

All of my mentors’ teaching style worked for me as it was very structured.  They would firstly explain the theory in a way that was easy to understand, then they would work through relatively simple questions to consolidate understanding, before moving on to more difficult and higher-order questions.  Because of this structured approach, I was able to study more methodically and it was more effective overall.

Doing five subjects at Talent I had a broad experience of different mentors. Having a younger mentor helped as they were able to provide tips that helped with study and general organisation.  They also gave me advice on university and the HSC so I found that super helpful, especially coming from a person who has gone through it all just a couple of years before myself. Having a qualified teacher was also beneficial in its own way as they were able to provide much more information on the topic that we were covering.  For example, I had David Sadler as my mentor for Mathematics Extension 2 and he has over 30 years of teaching experience and was able to go into the concepts that we were learning about in much greater depth.

My favourite class at Talent 100 was Mathematics Extension 1 with Jessica.  I absolutely loved this class because she would always make it fun and engaging, and would make jokes here and there.  She would always provide advice for us for HSC and study as well as university.  She would also give us a 20 minute break in the middle to just chill and talk and I really liked this about the class.  Overall, it was a really vibrant and engaging class to be in and I always looked forward to attending every week.  I also loved Physics with Pranav → he also made the class very engaging and I really liked the way he taught Physics.

What are you planning to study in the future?

I have been offered early entry into the Australian Defence Force Academy at UNSW Canberra in the Air Force stream.  I will be studying a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honours, before graduating and working full time as an Aerospace Engineering Officer in the Air Force.  I am incredibly excited about it!

How would you describe your Talent experience in a few words?

If I could describe Talent 100 in one word, it would be “amazing”.  The reason for this is because they have helped so much in my educational journey and have been with me every step of the way.  I would highly recommend anyone who wishes to attend tutoring to attend Talent 100!
